A Historic Treble in Shanghai
Morris and 19-year-old Boothman took the madison gold with 40 points, finishing ahead of France in second and Japan in third. The victory makes Morris the first woman to win all three events, team pursuit, omnium and madison, at a single championships since the women’s madison was introduced in 2017.
“I am quite speechless. It is going to take a while to sink in and reflect on it,” said Morris, now a seven-time world champion. “It has been a busy few days so now I have got time to let that soak in and enjoy it.”
Britain Dominate the Medal Table
Morris had already claimed gold in the women’s omnium on Friday and the team pursuit on Thursday, riding with Boothman, Josie Knight and Millie Couzens. Saturday brought more British success as Couzens, 22, won the individual pursuit in an all-British final, beating Knight to gold by half a second and clocking 4:21.505 for her second gold of the championships.
“It is amazing, I am still a bit in shock to be honest. I had zero expectations going in,” Couzens said.
Britain lead the medals table with six golds, underlining their dominance on the track in Shanghai.
