Manga Mavericks Books has licensed Sho Yonoko’s Gago Hunters: Greetings from Amatsumizu City’s Gago Suppression Squad, with a physical and digital release planned for July 2027. The announcement came during the publisher’s online event on Monday, adding another indie Japanese title to its growing catalogue.

At first glance, Amatsumizu looks like an ordinary town — but the mysterious creatures known as the Gago actually outnumber its human residents. When the mayor decides the supernatural menace has to go, he calls in a crack team of Gago busters. There is just one problem: the team does not exist yet.
Working on a tight budget, the mayor has no choice but to draft a team of ordinary citizens into the job. Hair stylist Umeko, cashier Mii, high school student Hiromi, and Umeko’s apprentice Yuuri become the Gago Hunters against their will — and while it sounds like an easy win for the supernatural, each of the girls has something distinctly off about her.
Gago Hunters Manga Release Date and Story Details
The manga debuted in September 2023 on HERO’S Web, and its sixth compiled book volume shipped in Japan on July 6. The English edition from Manga Mavericks Books will arrive in July 2027 in both print and digital formats, giving fans plenty of time to catch up on the Japanese run.
Alongside the Gago Hunters announcement, the publisher also unveiled a variant cover for its upcoming February 2027 release of Taiyo Matsumoto’s Brothers of Japan manga. That variant cover will be exclusive to the company’s online store.
What Is Manga Mavericks Books?
The Manga Mavericks website and podcast launched its Manga Mavericks Books publishing division in April 2025 to license, localize, and distribute works from indie creators in Japan around the world. Gago Hunters fits that mission perfectly: a quirky, supernatural comedy from an independent voice, now headed to English-speaking readers.
